Coach Carlos Dawkins of X-Factor Basketball in Texas looks beyond the 94x50 parquet for the end result for the youth playing for his teams.
“Our main goal is to make sure that the kids understand how hard work will pay off not only on the court but in life,” he says.
“My favorite aspect of summer basketball is the overall progression of the kids. From their being forced to create chemistry and camaraderie in a limited amount of time to seeing the end result is a beautiful thing!”
Dawkins is committed to helping all his players improve irrespective of their skill level when they start.
“We look for steady improvement in our kids in all areas on the court. We guarantee that each kid will get better in at least one facet of their game (shooting, defense, leadership, confidence, etc.) when they join Team X-Factor. It’s just as important to continue to develop as a player as it is to know what happened during a particular game or tournament.”
Actual skill is only one element that leads Coach Dawkins is looking for from his teams.
“The shining characteristic of our teams is the amount of heart that they show. No matter what the circumstances are, the other team will know that they were in a fight with X-Factor!”
Dawkins has identified one area he hopes his players improve the most out of this summer’s tournaments.
“I would say our overall mental toughness is an area in need of improvement. It's great to have heart, but we need to improve on how to utilize it better.”
