Who's The Best Current NBA Ballplayer from Atlanta?

3 min read

In case you didn't know, Atlanta - or The A, as we locals call it - is a hoops hotbed. The city has some of the best high school and AAU programs in the country, and many college and pro ballplayers rise up through the ranks every year. With the NBA season kicking off, here's a look at some of the current players from the A that will be representing in the League this season.

Who do you think is the best NBA ballplayer from the A? Here are the guys you can choose from...

Al-Farouq Aminu - Dallas Mavericks (Norcross)

One of the better in the lane dunkers in the league, Aminu is finally in a good situation and could blossom under coach Rick Carlisle and next to Dirk

Jae Crowder - Dallas Mavericks (Villa Rice)

Another Maverick, Crowder is one of the more unique players in the League. He's big and strong but can play both forward spots and knock down threes.  The Mavs have a lot of ATLiens but they are not the number one spot for A-towners...

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope - Detroit Pistons (Greenville)

That's right THE team to watch for Atlanta natives, the Detroit "ATL Remix" Pistons.

KCP is one of the most young exciting players in the NBA.  He's a great three and D prospect and was probably the best player this summer at the Orlando Summer League.

Josh Smith - Detroit Pistons (McEachern)

J-Smooth didn't have a great year as he was forced to play a lot of small forward with the Pistons so heavy at the post positions.  But Stan Van Gundy has vowed to play Smith at his rightful power forward position more and he should be in for a bounce back year.

But man, remember when he was making Highlights nightly at the Highlight Factory!

Dwight Howard - Houston Rockets (Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy)

D12, is there any more that needs to be said?  It's not about stats and All-Star games anymore for the big fella, it's about wins and getting back to the Finals.

Derrick Favors - Utah Jazz (South Atlanta)

Is this the season Favors breaks out?  We've seen flashes but now we need consistency.

JJ Hickson - Denver Nuggets (Wheeler)

Few can get buckets in the post like JJ but can the Nuggets make the Playoffs in a loaded Western Conference?

Jodie Meeks - Detroit Pistons (Norcross)

Meeks has turned himself into one of the best 3-point shooters in the NBA.  And look at that, another Atlanta player on the Pistons! Guessing that Detroit trip to the A will be a sellout (January 19th).

And once in a while, Meeks is known to go OFF

Jeremy Lamb - Oklahoma City Thunder (Norcross)

Big things are expected of Lamb this season, especially with Kevin Durant expected to miss sometime with an injury.  Can the sweet shooting guard step up and become a more impact player for the Thunder?

Lou Williams - Toronto Raptors (South Gwinnett)

Nothing was better than watching Sweet Lou ball back in his hometown the last couple seasons.  His injury last year was devastating and we wish him the best of luck with his recovery this season in Toronto!

Glen Rice Jr. - Washington Wizards (Walton)

Glen still is in the shadows of his famous ballplaying Dad, but he's starting to make a name for himself. He was named MVP of the NBA's Las Vegas Summer League and is poised to play a role with a Washington Wizards team that has higher expectations than it has had in years!
